Prof. Dr. Thomas Müller-Bahlke

Thomas Müller-Bahlke is Director of the Francke Foundations (Franckesche Stiftungen) in Halle. He studied history and focussed on 18th century transatlantic history. He wrote his PhD thesis about Heinrich Melchior Mühlenberg (1711–1787), who was sent from the Francke Foundations to Pennsylvania in 1741 and who is known as the patriarch of the Lutheran Church in North America. Müller-Bahlke was head of the Francke Foundation’s archives from 1992 before he became director of the Foundation in 2003. He is responsible for several research projects. He is coeditor of the book series ‘Hallesche Forschungen’ and ‘Forschungen zur hallischen Stadtgeschichte’. He is Honorary Professor at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and chairman of the Historical Commission for Sachsen-Anhalt.
