Prof. Dr. Patrick Vonderau

Patrick Vonderau is Professor of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Halle-Wittenberg (since 2018). Between 2009 and 2018 he was a Professor at the Department of Media Studies, Stockholm University. He is interested in media and cultural history, technology and social theory, and especially in understanding the multi-faceted relations between “media” and “industries” in their broad historical, aesthetical, theoretical, and technological contexts. His most recent book publications include the co-authored Spotify Teardown: Inside the Black Box of Streaming Music (MIT Press, 2019), A Tale from Constantinople: The History of a Film that Never Was (Symposium, 2019), and Advertising and the Transformation of Screen Cultures (Amsterdam University Press, forthcoming 2020). Patrick is a member of the Editorial Board of Television and New Media, Convergence, Media Industries Journal, and Montage AV: Zeitschrift für Theorie & Geschichte audiovisueller Kommunikation. He is also a co-founder of NECS-European Network for Cinema and Media Studies (necs.org).
