Katrin Berndt is Professor of English Literature and Culture at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg. A former fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities at the University of Edinburgh, Berndt is particularly interested in literary knowledge and the connections between philosophy, history, and the imagination. She has published on the cultural poetics of Britain’s long eighteenth century, Canadian and postcolonial African writing, the dialogue between science and fiction, and on Scottish literature. Berndt is the author of the monographs Narrating Friendship and the British Novel, 1760-1830 (Routledge, 2017), Female Identity in Contemporary Zimbabwean Fiction (Bayreuth African Studies, 2005), and Yoko Ono – In Her Own Write (Tectum Verlag, 1999) and has co-edited the collections Heroism in the Harry Potter Series (with Lena Steveker, Ashgate, 2011; paperback edition with Routledge, 2016) and Words and Worlds: African Writing, Theatre, and Society (with Susan Arndt, Africa World Press, 2007).
