Trajectories of Change: The New Woman in Japan
Carrie Khou, M.A. University of Mannheim
Carrie Khou discusses the function of the New Japanese Woman in feminist discourses of the turn of the century. In particular, she examines Kishida Toshiko’s Daughters in Boxes (Japan, 1883), serving as an example of early feminist thoughts on modern womanhood and the modern approach to redefine womanhood in fin-de-siècle Japan.
