We know the pictures of Dutch girls on Canadian tanks and American motorbikes, the waving crowds, and the people dancing in the streets. These images of liberation and the magical summer of 1945 are burned into the collective memory. But how did that liberation sound? That is much less known. What kind of music was played? What were these songs about? And what cultural significance did they have?
