Guest Lecture
Policing the US-Mexico Border, Policing the Brown Body: The Mexican American Experience
Jason Sae-Saue (Southern Methodist University)
This talk will examine how the formation of the US-Mexico border and policies of policing immigrants from Mexico contribute to ways Mexican Americans, already citizens of the US, experience “alien citizenship”: being citizens of the US, yet perpetually being perceived as foreign.
The lecture will show how this perception informs social and legal discourses that regard Mexican Americans as alien and how it impacts their historical experiences of exclusion from the US democratic project.
