Ecocriticism and Cultural Ecology

In the context of the seminar “Introduction to Major Issues in American Environmental Studies,” Prof. Dr. Zapf’s lecture will provide a general overview on Cultural Ecology, a new direction in ecocriticism and the environmental humanities. An expert on (literary) ecocritical theory and sustainability studies, Professor Zapf will discuss how literature, as a “medium of radical civilizational critique,” can challenge established narratives about man and nature as well as current societal and economic practices.
